What happens when America’s favorite pastime is introduced to Israel?

Join us on May 14th for the 15th Annual JFS Night at the Movies to see.

This PG-13 movie is the saga of an entrepreneur who muscled the improbable Israel Baseball League into existence.

League founder Larry Baras is a Jewish bakery owner from Brookline, Massachusetts, with no priorsports management experience. In the words of directors Brett Rapkin and Erik Kestin, “Like amodern-day Moses in a baseball cap, Baras led a group of wandering, ballplaying dreamers (not to mention these filmmakers) to a sandy diamond they could call their own.”

The film received rave reviews from Variety,

“You don’t have to understand a box score to embracethe crowd-pleasing national-pastime documentary HOLY LAND HARDBALL.”

Enjoy a pre-game reception at 5:45 p.m. at Suitable for Framing, 5800 Grove Avenue.

Then makeyour way up the street to the Westhampton Theatre at 7:00 p.m. for the film and raffle.

General admission tickets are $50, student tickets (with valid ID) are $25, raffle tickets are $60, and combo tickets (movie and raffle) are $100.

All proceeds benefit JFS, a health and human services 501c.3
non-profit organization.

Please join JFS in remembering October

is National Domestic Violence Month!

Domestic violence is real and it happens in our neighborhood, our workplaces, even at JFS. A few years ago, three HomeCare by JFS employees fell victim to violence and it cost them their lives. One was killed by her husband; one by her boyfriend and one by

her daughter’s boyfriend.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This October, JFS remembers its fallen staffers. We at JFS also honor many of our counseling clients who no longer live in abusive relationships-and they may not be who you think: they are not all women, and they are

not all poor.

Many cultures have experiences of abuse and slavery in their history.

In the Judaic tradition, we re-tell these stories to remember and explore our histories of oppression. At Passover each year, Jews the world over tell the story of slavery in Egypt and then of liberation.

When we tell or listen to stories of abuse, whether a story of an entire people or of a single victim, we make the story of pain and liberation real in the moment. Tellers and listeners are in bondage together and together seek liberation. Listening and telling serves as a memorial, celebration and inspiration, creating an intimate communion with those who suffered and those who still suffer.

If you or someone you know is a victim of violence please contact:
