ADOPTION with LOVE by JFS understands that while a wonderful
and loving option, adoption can be a daunting process. That
is why ADOPTION with LOVE by JFS provides caring, compassionate,
and comprehensive care. An Adoption Social Worker will personally
coach you through the adoption process. JFS will be there
as a partner to make sure you receive the guidance and understanding
you need. No matter what type of services you use, you will
receive personal attention and guidance.
Adoption Workshops
ADOPTION with LOVE by JFS provides quarterly workshops for
adoptive parents. An Adoption Social Worker provides an overview
of the adoption process and estimated fees and other expenses.
Often times, families who have recently adopted are present
to share their experiences, and there is always time for questions
and answers.
Homestudy Services
JFS provides homestudy services to individuals and families
of all ethnic and religious groups. An individual homestudy
offers sensitive and careful exploration of the issues involved
in parenting by adoption. Virginia law requires that all adoptive
families complete a homestudy before adopting. An individual
homestudy takes about six to twelve weeks to complete.
International Adoption Services
JFS conducts homestudies for individuals and families wishing
to complete international adoptions with a variety of agencies.
We also have a networking agreement with Cradle of Hope, an
international adoption agency in Maryland. A networking agreement
allows adoptive families to participate in these adoption
programs while receiving assistance and support from the JFS
social worker.
Parental Placement Services
Parental placement adoptions (also known as private adoptions,
direct adoptions or independent adoptions) are those arranged
directly by the birth parents and adoptive parents. For couples
or individuals who choose this type of adoption, JFS provides
homestudies, birth parent counseling and post-placement services.
Agency Placement Services
Agency placements occur when a birth parent has placed a child
in the custody of an adoption agency. The agency then places
the child with an approved adoptive family. Preference for
agency placements is given to couples or singles living in
Virginia, who are no older than 50 years of age and are unable
to have children biologically. Priority is given to childless
couples. All placement options are available to families of
all ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Post-placement Services
Post-placement services are a required part of the adoption
process, for both domestic and internataional adoptions. This
usually involves several visits with the family and their
child. This varies, depending on the type of adoption.
ADOPTION with LOVE by JFS is a licensed child-placing agency,
which conforms to the rules and regulations of the Commonwealth
of Virginia. State licensing requires renewal every one to
three years and at least two on-site evaluations every year.
JFS has been providing adoption counseling and services for
over 50 years.
